The First Tee of San AntonioThe First Tee of San Antonio, in partnership with the City of San Antonio, will be initiating an Adopt-A-Park program at Brackenridge Park, beginning on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 26th.  Participants with The First Tee of San Antonio will be volunteering their time on one Saturday a month to help pick up the trash and recyclable items in a portion of Brackenridge Park.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. In 2008, 120,000 volunteers built trails and bridges, removed trash and invasive plants planted over 1.6 million trees. This is the16th annual celebration.

One of the goals of National Public Lands Day is to build partnerships between the public sector and the local community based upon mutual interests in the enhancement and restoration of America's public lands.

As part of an ongoing effort to build partnerships with the community, City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department has developed the Adopt-A-Park Program dedicated to empowering local businesses and organizations who wish to demonstrate their civic pride by beautifying a designated park in their community.

Adopt-A-Park is a unique opportunity for The First Tee of San Antonio to play a vital role in the beautification and care of a portion of Brackenridge Park, while also promoting pride and environmental stewardship.

The First Tee of San Antonio is a member of the Brackenridge Park Conservancy, which was formed in Oct. 2008.  The goal of the Conservancy is to represent the interests of the park user, tie the park together in one coherent place, and augment resources dedicated to this particular park, including volunteers, expertise, funding and advocacy.

The Conservancy plans to raise funds for projects that benefit the park, as well as advise City Council, support the evolution and implementation of plans for the park, and act as a forum for users to address common issues and build consensus. The Conservancy will work closely with the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department.
