Horseshoe Bay Resort

Nestled in the heart of Texas, just 45 minutes west of Austin, Horseshoe Bay Resort is the perfect geographic locale for residents and visiting golfers due to the mild summers and short winters. The resort is home to three championship Robert rent Jones, Sr. golf courses: Slick Rock, Ram Rock, and Apple Rock.

Slick Rock was built in 1971 and spans approximately 170 acres, providing more than 33,700 feet of golf frontage property. With bentgrass greens, multiple tees on every hole, more than 71 sand traps and 12 water hazards, Slick Rock embodies the Robert Trent Jones, Sr. philosophy of “hard par, easy bogey.”

Constructed in 1981, Ram Rock has been nicknamed the “Challenger.” Narrow fairways and rolling Crenshaw bentgrass greens are surrounded by 62 deep bunker, 10 water hazards and natural dry creeks on six holes. With its dramatic elevation changes, Ram Rock offers enough length and difficulty to challenge scratch players in any group.

Apple Rock is Horseshoe Bay Resort’s third championship course, completed in 1986. Widely known as one of the most scenic courses in the state, these spectacular greens span 147 acres of the rolling Texas Hill Country along the shores of Lake LBJ.

The three golf courses, all which have consistently ranked as one of the “50 Best Courses in Texas” since 1989 from the Dallas Morning News, will soon be joined by a Jack Nicklaus Signature course, Summit Rock, scheduled to open in 2008. Perhaps the most unique of all the courses is Whitewater, an 18-hole, par 72 Bermuda grass putting course, complete with waterfalls and grazing flamingos.

As for accommodations, travelers can choose from luxury condos at The Waters at Horseshoe Bay Resort, or the 349-room Horseshoe Bay Resort Marriott Hotel. The Waters offers spacious villas with five single level floor plans, and one- two- and threebedroom configurations with breathtaking views of Lake LBJ. Amenities include gourmet kitchen with granite countertops fully equipped with top-of-the-line appliances, full-size refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker, small appliances, two large high-definition flat screen televisions and Apple iPod docking stations. Villas come complete with fully-furnished balconies and a washer/dryer unit in each villa. Concierge services and complimentary resort transportation are provided for all guests of The Waters. The Horseshoe Bay Resort Marriott offers deluxe accommodations, as well as one-, two-, and three-bedroom options at the Paseo. The Paseo is designed with a separate living area and wet bar, and the Presidential Suites are split-level layouts with the bedroom opening right onto the resort.

The tantalizing aromas from Horseshoe Bay Resort’s five restaurants greet guests long before they taste the mouth-watering selections. Whether one is looking for a casual or formal atmosphere, a table with a lakeside or golf course view, or the opportunity to sample Oysters Rockefeller or the “best burger in the Austin-area,” the Resort offers it all.

Guests can’t resist sampling the flavors of the Mediterranean bouillabaisse, grilled tuna rossini, or Colorado rack of lamb at the Yacht Club or the guacamole cheeseburger or Thai-Mex chopped salad at La Bahía. After being treated to one of the superb entrees or crisp salads, guests find themselves saving room for one of the Resort’s featured decadent desserts.

Giving golfers even more of a reason to tee off, now through February 2008 Horseshoe Bay Resort is enticing duffers to perfect their swing with the “Unlimited Golf Getaway,” featuring unlimited tee times on any of the resort’s golf courses. Golf enthusiasts will have plenty of practice lowering their handicap and can also take advantage of shared carts, driving range access, club cleaning and storage, and shuttle service to and from the greens. Guests will enjoy a 50% discount with nightly rates beginning at $117 per person, based on one golfer, and $155 per person, based on two golfers at The Waters at Horseshoe Bay Resort.

When taking a break from the green, guests will find plenty of activities as Texas’ original lakeside resort, founded in 1971. The 7,000-acre resort offers four swimming pools, a full-service marina, five dining facilities, 12 adult tennis course, and three USTA sponsored kids’ tennis courts. Tired muscles will be soothed with a variety of treatments at the spa and fitness facility, and those who wish to arrive in style can do so on private charter jet service via Air Horseshoe, landing on the 6,000-foot runway at the jet center.
